Just had another doctor appointment. He definately seems to think I have a kind of mixture of type 1 and type 2. So i guess my pancreas isn't producing enough insulin (which the Gliclazide helps to produce) and my body needs the Metformin do the job of insulin - to get the glucose into a form which can leave the bloodstream and be used by my body.

The doctor did mention a bit of research news
(in this BBC report) about an enzyme called 'alpha 1 anti-trypsin' which, along with drugs, either repairs or rebuilds the cells which produce insulin.
Diabetes UK said that clinical trials are planned.

Still waiting for my appointment with the dietician. The doctor said NHS had changed from an electronic way of referring someone to a paper-form based way, and gave me a copy of the form - with todays date on it - I hope this doesn't mean that it's only just been sent off !
